On April 27, 2008, at an NAACP Dinner, Reverend Jeremiah Wright offered his first public speech since the controversy surrounding his sermons became the subject of national attention. As conservative commentators watched for signs of new controversy, perhaps taking momentary pleasure as Wright broached the uncontroversial (and eighteenth century) subject of differences in African and European brain physiology, it quickly became clear that Wright wanted to tackle the subject of race relations by joking about funny accents, singing and dancing, and then lamely pleading that we should all just get along.
